In the 21st century, the rapid development in science and technology has created the need for individuals with different characteristics in societies. The main objective of almost all higher education institutions is to provide students with 21st century skills, which include learning and innovation skills, creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, communication and collaboration, information, media and technology skills, information literacy, media literacy, information and communication technologies literacy, life and professional skills, flexibility and adaptability, entrepreneurship and self-direction, social and intercultural productivity and responsibility, and leadership.

In addition, today, the publications gathered under the title of ’21st century skills’ have provided guidance on how new educational approaches should be in terms of the characteristics that the individual who can adapt to the changing world should carry.

In the process of all these studies, 3rd generation universities and their characteristics, international quality assurance standards and new approaches brought about by the transition from the information age society to the age of creative society have also come to the fore.

However, it will not be easy for students to acquire the skills mentioned above. For this reason, a realistic and accurate preliminary analysis of the institution, the processes leading to the goals, the developments in the processes and the quality of the outputs are of great importance. For example: it is very difficult to state that our students coming from secondary education institutions possess all of the above skills. For this reason, as a higher education institution in our country, we believe that developing the above-mentioned characteristics should also be part of our responsibilities.

As is known, the main purpose of education is to change behavior in a certain area. It is a known fact in terms of education and behavioral sciences how difficult it is to achieve behavioral change in adults. For this reason, the basis of our quality policy in the field of education, including distance education, is to monitor developments in educational sciences and sectoral developments and to contribute to society by integrating these developments into all vocational education programs. In this way, a link is established between the importance our university attaches to research and development and the educational mission that puts student-centered and practice at the center. Our priority studies in this field also include competency (output) based planning of education, learning priority education / training strategies, measurement and evaluation methods. For this reason, continuous education, distance education, flipped classrooms approach are the topics we take into consideration.

In addition, being internationally recognized, establishing MoUs, etc., and increasing the number of international students are also considered as a natural consequence of our quality policy in education. In this field, one of our approaches is to conduct scientific evaluations of the effectiveness of our education programs by increasing research in the field of education, such as program success evaluation, etc. In the field of graduate education, we carry out similar policies and take into account the creation of multidisciplinary fields. Again, increasing the number of graduate programs and students is included in our quality policy. One of the priorities of our quality assurance policy is national accreditations and international accreditations are aimed to be on the agenda in the following period.

The education and training policy has been formulated by taking stakeholder opinions into account and is periodically reviewed and updated by submitting it to the quality commission and relevant stakeholders. Policies are monitored through Strategic Plan Performance indicators.

Our main approach to our university’s Research Policy is to contribute to national and international science and to increase our place in international university rankings. In 2023, our university established the first Research Dean’s Office among foundation higher education institutions and provides the following support:

  • Execution of internal and external research project supports,
  • Monitoring project and publication performance,
  • Organizing in-house and public trainings on research and development and entrepreneurship,
  • Identifying domestic and international research funding institutions, monitoring these institutions, disseminating their announcements in the university, finding project partners,
  • Providing intellectual property rights support,
  • University-industry cooperation studies.

In this context, it is aimed to provide a free, qualified and inclusive research environment for all researchers, especially in the priority research areas of our university and interdisciplinary studies.

We benefit from numerous international and national research grants and are involved in high budget and multinational research projects.
